About Blue Jay Valley

"Smells like pre-teen spirit."
- Georgia Straight

They range in ages from 11 to 12.

They write their own songs and perform their own instruments.

They’ve already played several sold-out all-ages shows around their hometown of East Vancouver, BC, Canada. They have two vinyl records under their belts featuring the shout-along videos and original singles for the defiant and stomping “No School” , their ultra-catchy original pop-punk hit “Breakaway”, and their urban East Van grinder "Living In The City."

Meet Blue Jay Valley, a pre-teen Canadian rock ‘n’ roll sensation blowing hearts and minds everywhere they go, and may just be one of the youngest bands in the world releasing their own original rock music.

“We like the Hives, gob, Green Day, Sloan, the Beastie Boys, KISS, Weezer, Arkells, and the Ramones”, states guitarist Josh Lawrence. “We wanted to start our band to be like them.”

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree: Josh is the 12-year-old son of Juno-nominated Canadian singer-songwriter Jill Barber, and author, broadcaster, and lead singer of the Smugglers, Grant Lawrence.

Also in Blue Jay Valley are Noa (lead vocals, age 11), and Obi (drums, age 12), and brothers Mikey (lead guitar, age 12) and Alex (bass, age 11). The band formed in 2023 when the members were in grades 2, 3, and 4.

Blue Jay Valley's shows are high energy and interactive fun, often with dance contests, t-shirt cannons, and, if the venue allows, lots of confetti!

“Better than about 90% of what’s coming out these days. The “Breakaway” chorus is just as exhilarating and uplifting as the Go Gos’ ‘Vacation,’ and that’s the kind of sound and feeling that never gets old." - Larry Livermore, founder, Lookout Records (Green Day)
